DECATUR, Ill., Nov. 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fairview Hospital for Animals in Decatur, IL announced that the veterinary hospital has partnered with Pets for Patriots. Pets for Patriots is a non-profit group that helps match homeless dogs with military families. By partnering with Pets for Patriots, Fairview Hospital for Animals will provide affordable veterinary care services to pets that have been adopted through the Pets for Patriots program. Pet owners who adopt through the Pets for Patriots program receive a 10% discount on veterinary services.
Veterinarian Dr. Shelly Stevens and veterinarian Dr. Robert Groesch announced that their practice, Fairview Hospital for Animals, has partnered with Pets for Patriots. Military members, veterans, and their families who adopt an at-risk shelter animal through the Pets for Patriots program will receive a 10% discount on pet care services.
Pets for Patriots is a recognized 501(c)(3) organization that helps to save pets and serve people through the honorable adoption of at-risk shelter animals by service and veteran members of the U.S. military. It is one of the only organizations dedicated to serving these two populations.
"Pets for Patriots benefits both shelter animals in need and our nation's military members and their families," said Dr. Stevens. "The program gives homes to at-risk shelter animals. At the same time, the program helps ease the stress of military transition by connecting service members and their families with pets."
According to Pets for Patriots, 18 veterans take their lives each day, in part due to post-traumatic stress disorder following combat duty. Every eight seconds, a cat or dog is put to death in a shelter. Pets for Patriots helps save the lives of both pets in need and also service members who are struggling through a difficult readjustment process.
"We are proud to partner with Pets for Patriots and help save the lives of at-risk shelter pets while also easing the transition process for members of our nation's armed forces," said Dr. Groesch.
In order to qualify as a Pets for Patriots partner vet hospital, Fairview Hospital for Animals had to pass a checklist meeting certain qualifications including being in good standing for the past five years.
